Opening Reception
THE WORLD WITHIN: Folk Art of Sarah Britt
Friday, May 16
6 - 8 PM, Mezzanine Gallery

The Hickory Museum of Art is pleased to announce an exhibition featuring Morganton folk artist, Sarah Britt. THE WORLD WITHIN: Folk Art of Sarah Britt is now showing in the Mezzanine Gallery on the third floor of the Museum and runs through August 24. The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Friday, May 16 from 6 to 8 PM. The reception is sponsored by VanNoppen Marketing.
Britt’s vibrant creations reveal her equally animated internal world. Images from her daily life are intertwined with a fantasy world to create scenes and stories from a unique perspective. The exhibition features colored pencil drawings, paper-maché animals, found object collages, hand-stitched quilts, and more.

Sarah Britt is a member of Studio XI in Morganton, NC. Studio XI, supported by the Enola Group, is the creative center and outlet for the residents of Signature, a home for artists with developmental difficulties. The studio, which opened in 1994, not only provides a studio environment and materials for these creative individuals to work, but also acts as a showcase for the artwork. Britt joined the group in 2000 after completing high school in Morganton. It was through high school art classes that the artist’s creativity was first sparked, and it has continued to develop and mature over the years.
